Failure Reports Overview

Note: Due to privacy concerns, major providers are sending fewer failure reports. We therefore encourage you to not only rely on Failure Reports for troubleshooting.

Failure Reports are DMARC reports that provide additional detail — such as sender, receiver, subject, and more — for individual DMARC authentication failures. Unlike the data on the Email Senders Report, Failure Reports are not aggregated: a report is generated for each individual failure.

This page lists every Failure Report received across all of your domains, so you can review and troubleshoot authentication failures from one place.

Filters

Use the filters above the table to narrow down the list of reports.

FilterDescription
DomainsA multiselect dropdown of your domains. Leave it empty to view Failure Reports for all domains, or select one or more domains to limit the list to those. Your primary domain is marked with a star.
SearchType in the search bar to filter reports by keyword.

Note: If you open this page from within a specific domain, that domain is automatically selected in the Domains filter.

Reports table

Each row represents one Failure Report. Use the Columns button above the table to show or hide columns, and drag column headers to reorder them. Selecting Reset in the Columns menu restores the default set of columns.

By default, the table shows:

ColumnDescription
DomainThe domain the report relates to. Use the copy icon to copy the domain name, or the settings icon to open that domain's DMARC Settings.
DateThe date the report was generated.
IP AddressThe source IP address of the email that generated the report.
Authentication FailureThe authentication mechanism that failed, resulting in the report.
ResultThe action the receiving mail server took: Delivered, Rejected, Policy Applied, None, Accept, or Unknown.
Number of IncidentsHow many times this failure occurred.

You can add the following columns from the Columns menu:

ColumnDescription
Return PathThe return-path address of the email that generated the report.
Feedback TypeThe type of feedback contained in the report (for example, abuse or spam).
DKIM DomainThe domain used in the DKIM signature.
DKIM SelectorThe DKIM selector used in the DKIM signature.

SPF DNSThe SPF record published for the sending domain.
Reporting MTAThe mail server that generated the report.

Select a report row to open its full details in a side panel, including the option to download the original report.
